Every NEW Japanese SUV Coming in 2022

Japanese carmakers have a particularly strong presence in the SUV market, and here are the very new and refreshed Japanese SUVs worth considering to buy in 2022:
Honda HRV
The HRV achieved a relatively slow 8.6second 60mph time with frontwheel drive. The addition of allwheel drive slowed it even further, to 9.5 seconds. The HRV maintains the agile and eager handling of the Fit hatchback on which it is based. Better suspension dampening might alleviate choppiness on bad roads and body roll in corners. Still, the HRV settles into an equal ride while traveling on a flat road or freeway. The HRfourcylinder V’s engine is unrefined, loud, and slow. At the same time, the continuously variable automatic gearbox exacerbates the engine’s incivility.
Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
The Eclipse Cross’s turbocharged fourcylinder engine can reach 60 mph in 8.6 seconds. The engine produces power smoothly when paired with a continuously variable automatic gearbox. Throttle applications produce less engine noise than anticipated, and highway driving is quiet and unremarkable. The suspension on the Eclipse Cross is designed for comfort; negotiating bends at speed results in mild body roll. That suppleness pays dividends in ride quality, with the chassis staying composed even while driving over potholes and railroad crossings.
Nissan Pathfinder
While the 284hp 3.5liter V6 from the previous generation model remains in the 2022 Pathfinder, the CVT gets replaced with a new ninespeed automatic gearbox. Although frontwheel drive is standard, all grades are available with an allwheel drive. Upgrading to allwheel drive offers seven driving modes, including offroadfocused Sand and Mud/Rut modes. The Pathfinder’s handling is entirely forgettable and uninteresting. Still, the ride is relatively smooth, and Nissan’s attention to sound deadening components makes the interior exceptionally quiet while driving.
Subaru Outback
The Outback range has two flatfourcylinder engines; a base 182hp 2.5liter and an optional 260hp turbocharged 2.4liter. All Outbacks come equipped with allwheel drive, a Subaru standard except for the reardrive BRZ sports coupe. The basic engine Outback offers a mediocre acceleration and sluggish gearbox action. The Outback’s suspension provides a comfortable ride, and the steering is precise and straightforward to control on the highway. It lacks agility, which may surprise WRX enthusiasts who have switched to the more practical wagon. The basic engine in the wagon can tow 2700 pounds, while the turbocharged variant can haul 3500.
Mitsubishi Outlander
The Outlander drives with fresh agility and serenity, particularly when compared to the previous model. It has wellweighted steering, controlled body movements, and a tight ride. The brake pedal on the Outlander can pull the SUV from 70 mph in a classcompetitive 172 feet. Mitsubishi also claims a plugin hybrid version will be available in the future. The 2.5liter inlinefourcylinder engine in the Outlander produces 181 horsepower and 181 poundfeet of torque.
Toyota bZ4X
Toyota hasn’t revealed much about the bZ4X’s engine power, other than the fact that it will come standard with allwheel drive. This may mean two electric motors, one for each axle, or an allwheeldrive system that distributes power from a single electric motor to both axles. More information regarding the bZ4X’s engine will become available closer to the SUV’s release date. According to pictures, the bZ4X will have a more futuristic dashboard than previous Toyota vehicles, with a digital gauge display, a prominent infotainment touchscreen, and a spacious center console between the two front seats.
Toyota Highlander Hybrid
The Highlander is powered by a 295hp 3.5liter V6 engine mated to an eightspeed automatic gearbox and available with front or allwheel drive. The Highlander Hybrid’s 2.5liter fourcylinder engine and two electric motors produce a total of 243 horsepower. This model features a constantly variable automatic transmission with the option of front or allwheel drive. Using Toyota’s hybrid technology, this powertrain offers customers a more fuelefficient opportunity than the regular model.
Acura MDX
The new MDX has the same 290hp 3.5liter V6 engine as the previous model, but it is now paired to a tenspeed automatic gearbox rather than a ninespeed. Frontwheel drive is still the standard configuration, with allwheel drive offered as an option. The previous 2020 MDX also had a hybrid engine; however, Acura has not said whether or not the 2022 MDX will be hybridized. The Type S variant has a 355hp turbocharged 3.0liter V6 engine and allwheel drive as standard. We haven’t driven the Type S yet. Still, an allwheeldrive Advance test drive with the regular engine showed unexpectedly agile handling and lively acceleration.

HR Basics: Workforce Planning

HR Basics is a series of short courses, designed to highlight what you need to know about a particular human resource management topic. In today’s HR Basics, we explore workforce planning, how to identify current workforce issues, forecast future needs and implement a plan to ensure those needs are met.
Workforce planning is the process of making sure that individuals with the right skills are where they need to be, at the right time, to meet a firm’s current and future need. In many ways, workforce planning is an ongoing balancing act. Companies must balance the demand for labor with the available supply of labor.
Workforce planning is dependent on labor supply and demand. Labor demand refers to the number and types of employees the company needs to meet its current and future strategic objectives. Labor supply refers to the availability of current or potential employees to perform a company’s jobs.
Workforce planning requires attention on external workface availability, and the characteristics of the internal workforce, which are impacted by a number of factors. Factors such as interest rates, inflation, and economic decline or growth affect the availability of workers and should be considered when organizational and HR plans and objectives are formulated.
The second step in the workforce planning process is figuring out where you want to go, aligning human resource strategy with workforce planning issues and goals. To some extent, managers can control internal labor factors. Managers also have to evaluate factors in the external environment over which they have less control. These factors relate to the local labor market, economic conditions, and industry trends that impact the supply and demand for goods and services.
The third step of workforce planning process is figuring our how to get there through the identification of actions and metrics. A company’s organizational culture affects the different tactics firms use to deal with labor shortages and surpluses as well as how their employees will react to those tactics.
Strategic workforce planning usually covers a three to five year forecast period, aligned to business needs and outcomes. It focuses on identifying the workforce implications, current, transition and future of business strategic objects and includes scenario planning.
